Trustee
Karen G. Schaufeld was appointed to the Board of Trustees in December 2021 having previously served on the Foundation’s Advisory Board. Schaufeld is a philanthropist, author, entrepreneur, and lawyer. Ms. Schaufeld is CEO of SWaN Hill Top, which is working to develop a reimagined Hill Top House Hotel in historic Harpers Ferry, WV. Ms. Schaufeld also is the CEO and co-founder of Altor Locks, a company that creates innovative security products, including bike locks and trailer hitch locks.
Her philanthropic interests are vast. She is the founder and President of 100WomenStrong, a granting organization that strategically invests in nonprofits and programs that enrich the lives of Loudoun County residents. She also co-founded All Ages Read Together (AART), a school readiness program for low-income preschool-aged children. Ms. Schaufeld also is Co-Chair of Wolf Trap’s Next Chapter Initiative.
In addition, she is an advocate for the growth of renewable energy and a more secure and stable grid through distributed energy in the Commonwealth. To spread awareness about Virginia’s energy policy, she founded PoweredbyFacts.com and is actively involved in the passage of renewable energy bills. She also formed VaOurWay to educate voters to spur their action and attention during the Virginia legislative session.
Ms. Schaufeld is the author of four children’s books – The Lollipop, Larry and Bob, How to Eat a Peach, and Vultures, A Love Story. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Government from Lehigh University and a juris doctor degree from George Washington University.
Loudoun Hunger Relief (LHR) is a leading non-profit that has, since 1991, been providing food assistance to the residents of Loudoun County and ensuring access to nutritious foods for families in need.
Fairfax County Public Schools Health and Medical Sciences and the Claude Moore Scholars in partnership with Inova Health System are preparing students by putting their medical skills to test in full-scale mock disasters.
Claude Moore Scholar – Jeff Rivera is a recent graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. Jeff majored in Radiation Sciences, concentrating within his major was Radiography, with a sub-specialization in Cardiac Catheterization for heart imaging.
Claude Moore Scholar – Lexi Multi prepared for a healthcare career by majoring in Radiation Services at Virginia Commonwealth University, with a concentration in Radiography and a sub-specialization in Computerized Tomography (CT) scanning.
