Lara Major has devoted over 30 years to the field of education where her experience spans the entire continuum from early childhood to higher education. She began her career as a classroom teacher and reading specialist in Fairfax and Loudoun County Public Schools. After leaving the classroom, she became an adjunct instructor in Reading Education for the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development. She spent over two decades as an educational consultant with Major Consulting, where she worked closely with school systems to develop curriculum and assessment models and facilitate the professional development of teachers.
Lara is currently the Chair of E3: Elevate Early Education, a non-profit raising awareness and advocating to give all children access to quality education. She is Chair of All Ages Read Together (AART), a non-profit dedicated to educating underserved children with free preschool programs throughout Northern Virginia. She is the Vice President of 100WomenStrong, a Loudoun County based organization dedicated to providing strategic support to non-profits addressing key issues in education, shelter, health, and hunger. She serves as Secretary of the Claude Moore Opportunities board. In addition, she serves on several other boards including The Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties, JMU College of Education Advisory Board and the Willowcroft Foundation. She served on the Board of Visitors for James Madison University where she acted as Vice Rector and Rector for four years.
Lara earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from James Madison University and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia.
